What is Contemporary Dance? Contemporary dance is a genre that incorporates a variety of dance styles, from ballet to hip-hop. Its movement can vary from flowing floorwork to dancing upright with leg and foot precision. With little restriction, students are encouraged to explore their movement, eliciting an emotional response from the watcher. The universal language of contemporary dance tells stories, fictional or not.
