Donald Byrd's workshop is comprised of a two hour technique class, followed by approximately 2.5 hours of repertory.

Mr. Byrd's aesthetics emphasize a relaxed, strong, and flexible torso with sharp and highly articulated feet and legs. The technique portion of the workshop is designed to enhance this usage of the body, as well as increase rhythmic and spatial exactness. With this focus on accuracy, the dancer becomes more efficient and effective in the management of energy and more able to control the visual, emotional, and physical impact of their body moving.

A characteristic of Donald Byrd's choreography is its speed and abundance of movement information. The repertory session is structured to allow the dancer, by learning existing works or through compositional process, to gain skills and experience managing these demanding elements.

The workshop culminates with the Company audition. It is highly recommended that if you are planning to audition for the Company, that you also attend the workshop.

Elia Mrak Workshops

$15 per workshop or $40 for all three.
June 21st, 23rd and 25th 6-7:30PM

June 21st: Y(our) Rhythm: Musi'Physicality
Rhythm is inside of all of us, we just have to let it out. We will learn how to bring music inside of us, so we can dance it back out. We will transform the body into a musical instrument, giving shape, form and energy to beats, melody and rhythm. We will develop our unique Musi'Physicality.

June 23rd: Passing Through: The Game
Playing physical games, we go around, over and under each other, composing the space as we pass through. Moving to different types of music, we surprise ourselves and inspire the movements of others as they pass through. We learn to play with, and partner visible and invisible forces. We play to inspire creativity, physicality and artistry. We play to have fun. We play to dance.

June 25th: Flying Low
We will learn to love the floor. We will slide, dive, roll and jump in and out of the floor. Dissolving the hard floor into a lush swimming pool, we will transform our bodies into water. Using the resistance of the floor, we will develop speed, strength and artistry. We will glide, we will suspend. We will fly. Low.
