Donald Byrd Workshop for professional and pre-professional dancers:

June 22 – June 26th 11-4pm; Audition, June 27th, 12-3pm

Donald Byrd’s workshop is comprised of a 2 hour technique class followed by approximately 3.5 hours of repertory. Mr. Byrd’s movement aesthetics emphasize a relaxed, strong and flexible torso with sharp and highly articulated feet and legs. The technique portion of the workshop is designed to enhance this usage of the body, as well as increase rhythmic and spatial exactness. With this focus on accuracy, the dancer becomes more efficient and effective in the management of energy and more able to control the visual, emotional and physical impact of their body moving.

One of the characteristics of the choreography of Donald Byrd is its speed and its abundance of movement information. The repertory session is structured to allow the dancer, by learning existing works or through compositional process, to gain skills and experience managing these demanding elements.

Pre-K African Dance and Drumming Workshop:
ages 3-5years

July 6, 8, and 10th 12pm-1:30pm
Price: $14 per class or $40 for all three days.
Students have the opportunity to experience the dancing and drumming of Northern Ghana with Awal Alhassan. Focused on creativity, coordination, and rhythm, classes will provide a unique and fun setting for children to express themselves while nurturing cultural awareness. Drums are provided.

The day begins with students deepening their experience and knowledge in Ballet with daily classes in technique, variations and Pointe work. The afternoon will be a opportunity to round out their summer training with Contemporary, Improvisation, Brazilian Samba, Salsa, West African Dance, Gyrokinesis, and choreography. Don’t miss this unique summer dance intensive!

Musical Theater Camp: ages 9-16 yrs.

10-4pm

Students will rehearse and perform an original musical production, while developing their performance skills with acting games, improvisational, and making some of their own props.

Drama Dance Camp: Ages 7-12

August 10-14th
10am-4pm
Price: $250 (after June 15th $300)
Students will rehearse and perform an original theatrical dance production, while developing their performance skills with acting games, improvisation and mask making.

All That Jazz

August 3-7th 1-4pm
Grades: 4-6 and 7-12
In this class, musical theater will be used to develop and integrate dancing, singing, and acting skills. Musical theater dance draws heavily from jazz dance and incorporates ballet and modern dance. Faculty from Spectrum and SCT Drama School will teach musical theater choreography, Broadway-style singing, and acting with an emphasis on character development. You’ll be on you way to becoming a performer!
