Spectrum Dance


The Academy Program is Spectrum Dance Theater's dance intensive program for dedicated students, ages 14 to 21 years, who are interested in an training for possible careers in dance. It offers a diverse curriculum of Ballet, Modern, Lyrical Jazz, Tap, Hip-Hop, West-African Dance, Brazilian Dance, as well as performance opportunities. This intensive training program is designed to develop well-rounded dancers, providing them with the highest level of training, and a rich artistic experience. Acceptance to The Academy Program is by audition only. It is based on artistic talent, physical ability and commitment level.

Class Requirements Eight to ten classes per week (approximately14 hours per week including rehearsals) - Ballet (4x); Pointe (2x); Contemporary/Modern (1x); and Samba, West-African Dance or Hip Hop (1x).	The Academy Dance Ensemble The Academy Dance Ensemble is the performance group associated with The Academy Program. The Academy Dance Ensemble performs throughout Seattle area; at schools, businesses, and special events. In order to participate in the Academy Dance Ensemble, students must currently be enrolled in The Academy Program.

Benefits Given to Participants in the Academy Program We believe that the most effective dance education program, incorporates a mixture of high-quality dance instruction with exposure to high-quality professional level dance. To that end, Spectrum Dance Theater has added these services and benefits to The Academy Program to support the student's overall training and artistic experience. Invitation to attend Company rehearsals at the studio or The Moore Theatre. Discounted and/or free tickets to Spectrum Dance Theater performances. Tickets to Spectrum's Studio Series (upon availability), at the Madrona Dance Studio. Discounted and/or free tickets to Seattle Theater Group's Performances at The Moore Theatre and/or The Paramount (upon availability). Opportunities for backstage tour at the Moore Theatre during Company technical rehearsals for performances. Opportunities to shadow a Company dancer.	Enrollment Procedures Students between the ages of 14 and 21, interested in participating in The Academy Program are required to audition for acceptance into the program. Auditions take place in August at Spectrum Dance Theater. A short ballet class will be given at the audition followed by the audition. Students should wear ballet attire, including Pointe shoes if they have studied Pointe. To sign up for the audition, call The School of Spectrum Dance Theater at 206-325-4161.
