Education Outreach Program Information
Spectrum Dance Theater’s Education Outreach Program is designed to provide dance classes, services, education and access to those in our community who would normally not have access to, or envision themselves to be included in a dance community. It is used to expand our scope beyond the four walls of The School of Spectrum Dance studio, and to examine how our services might contribute to the health and well being of the community at large. Our focus in arts education outreach is on those services that might be provided to schools and children between the ages of 3-18 years.
We believe that it’s important for students interested in dance to experience and be exposed to some of the many aspects of dance. This is accomplished by offering high quality dance workshops taught by professional outreach dance instructors, observing dance professionals hard at work perfecting their craft at rehearsals, and exposure to professional level dance performances. Spectrum’s Education Outreach Program includes the following dance programs to support its belief:
In-Step Program
Given in lecture/demonstration format and in association with Spectrum Dance Theater (our professional dance company), the In-Step Program is divided into two types, In-School (local schools, off site) or In-House (on site at The Spectrum Studio)It includes two or more dancers who demonstrate the movement vocabulary of contemporary concert dance and perform excerpts from Spectrum Dance Theater’s repertoire. Students actively participate in the demonstration and the question and answer session. In-Step programs are also available for colleges, businesses, and corporations.
Creative Movement Workshops (ages 3-6 years)
Participants will receive hands-on instruction while learning the basic elements of movement t in a creative, structured and fun atmosphere. These workshops can be held in any open space in your school or at The School of Spectrum Dance Theater studio. They can include curriculum, a story or theme. Teacher supervision and participation is required. The faculty of the Creative Dance Department of The School of Spectrum Dance Theater teaches these workshops.
Introductory to Dance Workshops (Ages 7-18 years)
In this workshop, children will be introduced to basic dance technique, alignment & rhythm, in a creative, structured and fun atmosphere. The dance forms offered by Spectrum include Jazz, Modern, Hip Hop, Ballet, African, & Tap.
The Perfect Dance Field Trip (Ages 7-18 years)
This fieldtrip takes place at The School of Spectrum Dance Theater, on the shores of Lake Washington. It begins with a tour, and history of the studio. The students then participate in a one-hour Introductory to Dance Workshop, where the students are introduced to basic dance technique, alignment and rhythm. Dance forms include Modern, Jazz, Ballet, Hip Hop and African.
