It has been said that: it is a fact that you feel but feelings aren't facts. This is somewhat of a study to that adage, an effort to pay respect to both. I think it's also interesting that as the dancers make their journey towards the finished work, they acquire their own battle scars. It can be a pathway into their soldier's experience, and a wonderful tool for connection to their "character". paralleling the daily daunting task at approaching work as vigorous and emotionally intense to what a soldier in combat might feel. As a dancer, often you don't know if you will make it through the day, the rehearsal the run- at times it takes so much fortitude to push through, I can only image that in some respects the soldier might feel the same way, although what is at stake is far greater- it is his/her life. The potential for artistic growth and development in a process like this is incredible. Byrd is not merely creating a dance piece but thinking, feeling, intellectually engaged dancers, which is what the world - and specifically the dance world and America needs!
I really am enjoying watching the process in which Donald Byrd Works. I think that expressing these lives on stage with the art of dance is fantastic!! Keep up the good work. HI KELLY ANN!!!!!
this is beautiful and tragic and so Donald. I miss Spectrum ! Love you all.Cooper
