AMERICAN STORIES

At the center of American Stories, which features two distinctively original dance works about the American experience - small town life, and war - is the world premiere of Donald Byrd's Interrupted Narratives/War. Thought-provoking and evocative, Interrupted Narratives/War. asks us to consider how we grieve, memorialize and remember those we have lost as a result of war. It explores the mental impact and emotional devastation of death caused by armed conflict and how lives are interrupted and disrupted by wars. Performed with the inimitable fire of the dancers of SPECTRUM DANCE THEATER to the music of iconoclasts Muslimgauze and Tin Hat.

American Stories opens with KORESH DANCE COMPANY of Philadelphia performing Living in East Podunk (2003), a favorite Byrd satirical piece that dares to "expose" the hidden drama, seductions and domestic/sexual delights of ordinary small town life.

REVIEWS

From an audience member , after attending Interrupted Narratives/WAR:
"I was too stunned, and too respectful, to clap much after the performance on Saturday night. So please consider this loud and prolonged applause for the entire show, and especially for Interrupted Narratives/War. I'm still asking myself questions after seeing this piece, and continue to see the dancers writing in the sand. It's a provocative and evocative piece, powerfully conceived and danced, and I'm so glad I finally got it together to go see a Spectrum Dance performance."
